Death Penalty

Whoever sheds man’s blood, his blood will be shed by man, for God made man in his own image.

“One who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death,

Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, “Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.”

“You shall not murder.

Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them, having, in the same way as these, given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are shown as an example, suffering the punishment of eternal fire.

“Anyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.

The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

“Anyone who kidnaps someone and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.

At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, he who is to die shall be put to death. At the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.

Let the sighing of the prisoner come before you. According to the greatness of your power, preserve those who are sentenced to death.

For I have no pleasure in the death of him who dies, says the Lord Yahweh: therefore turn yourselves, and live.

or to governors, as sent by him for vengeance on evildoers and for praise to those who do well.

But I tell you, that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment; and whoever shall say to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council; and whoever shall say, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of the fire of Gehenna.

“‘A man or a woman that is a medium, or is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones. Their blood shall be upon them.’”

But when the righteous turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, shall he live?
