“Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.”
This calls for wisdom: Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a human, 666 - the number 666 (anthropos arithmos, the number of a human) likely uses gematria to encode a ruler's name, perhaps Nero or a typological anti-Christ. Six falls short of seven (perfection), so 666 is the ultimate human failure: the throne of humanity without God.
