ISAIAH 55:8 — KING JAMES VERSION 1 0
Isa 55:7Isa 55:9
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
The reliability of God's word—'For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it'—asserts that God's word is as reliable and effective as natural processes. The image of rain and snow watering earth and producing growth suggests that God's word similarly produces inevitable results. The promise that God's word 'shall not return empty' but will 'accomplish that which I purpose' establishes prophetic certainty. This verse grounds confidence in the prophecy's fulfillment in the nature of God's word.
