“But mine eyes are unto thee, O God the Lord: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute.”
But my eyes are turned toward you, O Lord my Lord; in you I seek refuge; do not leave me defenseless. The reorientation toward God suggests that the only true protection lies in divine refuge. The lifting of eyes toward God creates physical gesture expressing spiritual orientation. The final petition (do not leave me defenseless) expresses dependence; without God's protection, the psalmist is vulnerable. This verse demonstrates that trust in God expresses itself in direct address and vulnerable petition.
