“Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.”
The plea that God keep us and guard us from this generation forever establishes that God must actively protect His people against the corrupt surrounding generation. The appeal to protection and guarding suggests that the danger posed by human deception requires divine intervention and constant vigilance. The mention of forever suggests that the corruption is perpetual and the need for divine protection is permanent.
