“Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word:”

The 'voice of the LORD' (presumably through Moses and God's revealed word) represents the channel of covenant instruction, which Israel refuses. This verse portrays rebellion as rooted in a refusal to listen to God's authoritative word.
