“Ye shall defile also the covering of thy graven images of silver, and the ornament of thy molten images of gold: thou shalt cast them away as a menstruous cloth; thou shalt say unto it, Get thee hence.”
You will also defile your carved images overlaid with silver and your molten images covered with gold; you will scatter them as an unclean thing; you will say to them, 'Be gone!', establishing that the restoration includes the active rejection and destruction of idols, a purification of worship that is central to the renewal. The carved and molten images represent the idolatry that has characterized the unfaithful community. The defilement and scattering suggest the people's turning away from idols and their deliberate destruction. The command to be gone suggests an active expulsion of what had been embraced. The oracle establishes that true restoration requires the removal of idolatry and the reestablishment of exclusive worship of God.
