Then Mordecai commanded them to reply to Esther, Do not think that in the king's palace you will escape any more than all the other Jews, revealing Mordecai's insight that Esther's position in the palace will not protect her from the decree of genocide and that she is implicated in the fate of her people despite her concealment of her Jewish identity. This statement makes clear to Esther that her apparent safety is illusory and that the threat to her people extends to her as well.
