“And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not shew the interpretation of the thing:”
Then Daniel answered in the presence of the king, Let your gifts be yours, and give your rewards to another; nevertheless I will read the writing to the king and make known to him the interpretation. Daniel's response is remarkable for its refusal of the offered rewards: he will not accept purple, gold chain, or rank in exchange for his interpretation.
