When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they raised their voices, saying in the Lycaonian language, 'The gods have come down to us in human form' — the pagan crowd's response reveals fundamental theological confusion: they interpret the healing not as testimony to the Christian God but as an epiphany (theophania) of their own gods.
