But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong — the divine choice (exelexato) is not random but purposeful: to shame (kataischynē) the wise and the strong. 'Things' (ta) depersonalizes—God uses not merely lowly people but lowly realities (the cross, the messiah's death, Paul's weakness). Shame in honor-shame culture is the deepest humiliation; God inflicts it on human pride.
