Titus 2

But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.

Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness.

Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good,

and so train the young women to love their husbands and children,

to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.

Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled.

Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity,

and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.

Bondservants are to be submissive to their own masters in everything; they are to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,

not pilfering, but showing all good faith, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people,

training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,

waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,

who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.

Declare these things; exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you.

Titus 2:7

“Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity,”

Show yourself in all respects a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be criticized — Paul addresses Titus directly, establishing the pastor as living exemplum (typos) of the doctrine proclaimed. Good works must be visible and deliberate; teaching must display semnotes (gravity) and akatagnōstos logos (speech beyond censure). The pastor's character becomes the sermon; hypocrisy invalidates message.

NoteThe promise of restoration - Titus 2

God is faithful in every circumstance. The contrast between human weakness and divine strength is so vivid in this passage. God is faithful in every circumstance. Today it speaks comfort; a year ago it spoke conviction. Their context of persecution gives these words a weight we often miss. There's something deeply comforting about knowing that the same God who spoke these words is the same yesterday, today, and forever. We bring nothing; He provides everything. God is faithful in every circumstance. God meets us exactly where we are - broken, uncertain, yet chosen. Their context of persecution gives these words a weight we often miss. When we read this alongside the surrounding chapters, the narrative arc becomes clear: God is always working redemption, even in the darkest moments. God is faithful in every circumstance. God is faithful in every circumstance. What a reminder that God's ways are not our ways.…

NoteThe role of community - Titus 2

God is faithful in every circumstance. God is faithful in every circumstance. Following God is costly, but the reward is eternal. God is faithful in every circumstance. Reading the Psalms alongside this gives a fuller picture of what the author was experiencing - both the anguish and the hope. I think this is a call to trust beyond what we can see. God is faithful in every circumstance. God is faithful in every circumstance. God meets us exactly where we are - broken, uncertain, yet chosen. God is faithful in every circumstance. I think this is a call to trust beyond what we can see. Now I understand why - it's a daily declaration of dependence on God. When we read this alongside the surrounding chapters, the narrative arc becomes clear: God is always working redemption, even in the darkest moments. God is faithful in every circumstance. NoteIntegrity Makes Doctrine Credible

I'm a pastor in a small town, and people know me as the person I am, not as a representative of an institution. That reality has made this verse increasingly meaningful to me. Titus is told to be a model of good works, to show integrity in his teaching. The implication is that the message depends on the messenger having credibility. We live in a time when institutional religion has lost credibility precisely because people have seen teachings about morality disconnected from the lives of those teaching. Paul understood something we're relearning: words aren't enough. The way you live either validates or undermines what you say you believe. That doesn't mean perfection. I'm not trying to be flawless. But I am trying to be honest, to be the same person in private as I am in public, to demonstrate that the faith I'm commending is actually shaping how I live.…
