Titus 2

1

But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:

1
2

That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.

1
3

The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

1
4

That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

2
5

To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

2
6

Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.

1
7

In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,

2
2
8

Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

2
9

Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again;

1
10

Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

3
11

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

1
12

Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

1
13

Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

1
14

Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

1
1
15

These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

Titus 2:7

“In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,”

Study Summary

Show yourself in all respects a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be criticized — Paul addresses Titus directly, establishing the pastor as living exemplum (typos) of the doctrine proclaimed. Good works must be visible and deliberate; teaching must display semnotes (gravity) and akatagnōstos logos (speech beyond censure). The pastor's character becomes the sermon; hypocrisy invalidates message.

The promise of restoration — Titus 2

God is faithful in every circumstance.. The contrast between human weakness and divine strength is so vivid in this passage. God is faithful in every circumstance.. Today it speaks comfort; a year ago it spoke conviction.. Their context of persecution gives these words a weight we often miss.. There's something deeply comforting about knowing that the same God who spoke these words is the same yesterday, today, and forever.. We bring nothing; He provides everything.. God is faithful in every circumstance.. God meets us exactly where we are — broken, uncertain, yet chosen. Their context of persecution gives these words a weight we often miss.. When we read this alongside the surrounding chapters, the narrative arc becomes clear: God is always working redemption, even in the darkest moments.. God is faithful in every circumstance.. God is faithful in every circumstance.. What a reminder that God's ways are not our ways.…

The role of community — Titus 2

God is faithful in every circumstance.. God is faithful in every circumstance.. Following God is costly, but the reward is eternal.. God is faithful in every circumstance.. Reading the Psalms alongside this gives a fuller picture of what the author was experiencing — both the anguish and the hope.. I think this is a call to trust beyond what we can see. God is faithful in every circumstance.. God is faithful in every circumstance.. God meets us exactly where we are — broken, uncertain, yet chosen. God is faithful in every circumstance.. I think this is a call to trust beyond what we can see. Now I understand why — it's a daily declaration of dependence on God..
