Luke 21:1
As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich giving their gifts into the temple treasury — looked up: the visual attention to the temple treasury scene. The rich giving their gifts: the conspicuous giving of those with wealth to contribute.
Luke 21:1
“And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.”

Community Reflections
As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. 'I tell you the truth,' he said, 'this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.' Luke places this right before Jesus's long teaching on the end times. As if to say: while others are preparing temples and monuments, what God notices is a widow's complete trust. Her offering frames what Jesus is about to discuss—the ultimate disruption of the systems we think are secure. What we've built and invested in will fall. What matters is whether we've held anything back from God or whether we've given everything.
