“Some of them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him.”
And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him — some in the crowd attempt to arrest Jesus, but again, none succeeds. As in 7:30, the failure to arrest is attributed to something beyond human agency—'his hour was not yet come.'
