Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace — the "fullness" (plērōma) of the Word contains inexhaustible grace; rather than depletion, each reception overflows into subsequent grace. The phrase "grace in place of grace" suggests wave upon wave of divine gift, not replacement but succession.
