1 Thessalonians 3

1

Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left at Athens alone;

3
2

And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith:

2
3

That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto.

1
2
4

For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.

5

For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.

1
6

But now when Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you:

2
7

Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith:

2
1
8

For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord.

1
1
9

For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;

10

Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?

11

Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you.

1
12

And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:

1
13

To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

1 Thessalonians 3:7

“Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith:”

Study Summary

Because we are greatly comforted, brothers, in all our persecution and affliction by your faith — the comfort (paraklēsis) flows in reverse; Paul's own tribulation is alleviated by news of the Thessalonians' steadfastness. Their faith sustains the apostle in his own struggle; the community's perseverance becomes his strength. Mutual encouragement is the grammar of the body of Christ.

Finding rest in God — 1 Thessalonians 3

This is one of those passages that reads differently in every season of life. The thread of covenant runs through every book of the Bible.. Faith isn't the absence of doubt — it's choosing to believe despite it.. His timing, His methods, His purposes — all beyond our comprehension, yet perfectly good.. What a reminder that God's ways are not our ways. I notice the repetition here is deliberate — the author wants us to feel the emphasis, to let the truth sink deep into our hearts.. Faith isn't the absence of doubt — it's choosing to believe despite it.. The imagery here is agricultural — the original audience would have immediately understood the metaphor of sowing, waiting, and harvesting.. The thread of covenant runs through every book of the Bible.. God is faithful in every circumstance.. God is faithful in every circumstance.. We bring nothing; He provides everything.. Their…

The role of community — 1 Thessalonians 3

God is faithful in every circumstance.. Today it speaks comfort; a year ago it spoke conviction.. God is faithful in every circumstance.. When we read this alongside the surrounding chapters, the narrative arc becomes clear: God is always working redemption, even in the darkest moments.. God is faithful in every circumstance.. His timing, His methods, His purposes — all beyond our comprehension, yet perfectly good.. God is faithful in every circumstance.. My grandmother used to quote this verse every morning. I think this is a call to trust beyond what we can see. The promise here is not conditional on our strength but on His character.. It implies covenant loyalty, steadfast love that never wavers.. God is faithful in every circumstance.. I love how this passage doesn't shy away from the difficulty of obedience. God is faithful in every circumstance.. My grandmother used to quote this verse every morning. The…
