Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod's household; and Susanna. And many others. These women had been cured of evil spirits and diseases, and were contributing to the support of Jesus and the Twelve out of their own means.
Luke names the women who financed Jesus's ministry and traveled with him. They weren't background characters. They were essential to the work. Joanna was connected to political power (Herod's household). Mary had been radically healed. Susanna—we know almost nothing about her except that she was there. They pooled their resources and supported the movement. Luke tells us this. He gives women credit for the infrastructure that made the ministry possible.
