The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, 'What is this? A new teaching with authority!' They didn't say he taught well or persuasively. They said he taught with authority. As if his very presence carries weight.
Authority in Mark isn't about position or title. It's about presence. Jesus speaks and demons obey. He speaks and storms settle. There's an alignment between his word and reality. I think about who has that kind of authority in my life—not position but presence. Who speaks and I listen? Usually it's people whose words carry weight because their lives are aligned with what they're saying.
