He said to his disciples, 'Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?' They were terrified and asked each other, 'Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!' The disciples have seen Jesus heal the sick, teach with authority, and cast out demons. Yet a storm produces fresh terror.
Their fear suggests experience doesn't automatically produce faith. You can witness God's power and still panic at the next crisis. Faith isn't accumulated from past experiences. It's chosen fresh each time. Jesus's question—'Why are you so afraid?'—isn't rhetorical. He's genuinely asking. Why aren't you choosing trust?
