My son got his speech evaluation results yesterday - he has a language processing delay. I immediately thought of Moses saying 'I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.' It's such a relief to have someone in Scripture name this particular kind of helplessness.
God doesn't say 'Don't worry, I'll heal you' (though He could have). He says 'Who made your mouth?' and then offers Aaron as a solution. There's practical help here - not magical fixing. Moses' limitations were real. They remained real. But they didn't disqualify him from the most important task of his life.
I'm learning to trust that my son's challenges aren't punishment and they won't prevent God from using him. They might shape how he's used, just like Moses' speech shaped how he'd lead. God works through our actual, unvarnished selves.
