Jesus answered, 'Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.' The Samaritan woman at the well came looking for actual water. Jesus is offering metaphorical water.
But I think the metaphor is grounded in reality. Physical water satisfies temporarily. You get thirsty again. Spiritual thirst—the need for meaning, connection, transcendence—is different. If you drink from the well Jesus offers, something fundamental shifts. You're no longer driven by the same desperation. I've noticed that in people who seem genuinely at peace—they've found the well that actually quenches.
