John sees war break out in heaven. Michael and his angels fight against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fight back. But the dragon isn't strong enough. He and his angels are defeated and cast out of heaven.
The dragon becomes Satan, the ancient serpent who leads the whole world astray. He's cast to the earth, and his angels with him.
Then John hears a loud voice in heaven saying 'Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. The accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before God day and night, has been hurled down.'
Then it says 'They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. They did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.'
The victory isn't won through military might. It's won through testimony and willingness to die. That's how Satan is defeated: through faithful witness, even unto death.
