Paul rejoices: 'But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in the triumphal procession of Christ and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.' Spiritual victory is relational, not dominational.
I'm a spiritual director, and I see people trying to 'triumph' through willpower, through outworking the flesh, through spiritual disciplines. But Paul is describing something different. He's being led. He's a captive in Christ's triumphal procession. The victory isn't his achievement. It's Christ's reality that he's participating in.
That shifts everything. I'm not trying to be victorious. I'm resting in Christ's victory. That releases effort and creates joy. The triumph is already won. I'm just reflecting it everywhere.
