Jesus commends Thyatira for love, faith, service, and perseverance. They're growing. But he has something against them: they tolerate a prophetess who teaches and seduces believers into sexual immorality and eating food sacrificed to idols.
There's a woman named Jezebel. Jesus says he gave her time to repent, but she refused. Now he's bringing judgment on her and those who commit adultery with her. The severity is striking. She's not just wrong. She's dangerous. She's leading believers away from faithfulness.
To those who overcome and hold to what Jesus teaches, he promises authority over nations, ruling with a rod of iron, and the morning star. The promise involves power and dominion. Overcoming isn't weakness. It's the path to rulership.
