Jesus addresses Sardis: 'You have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.' They have a name that implies vitality, but they've stopped living. The works aren't completed in God's sight. This is the judgment of spiritual deadness disguised as success.
Jesus tells them to wake up, strengthen what remains, and remember what they've received and heard. Then obey it. There's still hope for Sardis if they turn. But the window is open only if they act.
To the overcomer, Jesus promises they'll be clothed in white, their names won't be erased from the book of life, and he'll acknowledge them before the Father. The reward isn't just personal recognition. It's public vindication before the highest authority. That matters to people dying in obscurity.
