I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. Jesus uses an image of organic connection and cultivation.
You're either connected to the vine or cut off. There's no middle ground. If you're connected, you produce fruit—not through effort but through remaining in relationship. The Father prunes for fruitfulness. Sometimes that feels like cutting away. But it's for productivity. I've experienced seasons of pruning where things got stripped away. Later I realized it made space for new growth.
