John is invited into heaven. He sees a throne, and on it is a figure appearing like jasper and carnelian. Around the throne are twenty-four elders on twenty-four thrones, clothed in white with crowns. Lightning and thunder proceed from the throne, and seven lamps burn before it.
Before the throne is a sea of glass like crystal. Around it are four living creatures covered with eyes inside and out. They don't rest day or night, saying 'Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come.'
This is cosmic worship. Everything revolves around the throne. The creatures' endless proclamation of God's holiness isn't ceremonial. It's the reality they perceive. From their vantage point, God's absolute holiness is so overwhelming that it's all they need to say.
