I'm a therapist, and I work with people processing trauma from religious abuse. Many of them have been taught that obedience is more important than truth, that authority is more important than revelation.
But John says the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Testimony. Not obedience to authority. Not adherence to doctrine. But direct encounter with Jesus and the freedom to speak it.
I'm helping people find their testimony - the story of what Jesus has actually done in their lives, not what they've been told Jesus should do. And when they find it and speak it, healing happens.
There's so much power in personal testimony that institutions try to control. John says that's the real spirit of prophecy. Not correct doctrine. But real encounter spoken truly.
