When the sixth angel sounds, John hears a voice coming from the golden altar before God. It tells the sixth angel to release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates. The four angels are released to kill a third of humanity.
John sees the army: two hundred million mounted troops. The riders wear breastplates fiery red, dark blue, and yellow as sulfur. The horses have heads like lions, and out of their mouths come fire, smoke, and sulfur. A third of humanity is killed by these plagues.
Yet the survivors still refuse to repent. They don't turn from their idolatry, their murders, their sorcery, their sexual immorality, or their thefts. Judgment doesn't produce repentance. It hardens. That's tragic.
