Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. Everything about the Christian life flows from resurrection. Not from self-help or moral effort or strategic planning, but from the conviction that Christ is risen. Because he rose, our work isn't futile. Because he rose, we can be steadfast. Because he rose, we can abound in labor.
I teach philosophy, and I notice that our culture has no foundation for meaningful work anymore. We work for a paycheck. We work for social status. We work because we're compelled. But all of those collapse under scrutiny. Why does it matter if I make money that will be spent? Why does status matter if I'll die anyway? The resurrection changes this entirely. Work matters because it's part of eternal reality.
That's not supernatural thinking. That's realism. If Christ is risen, then the kingdom of God is real, and work in that kingdom isn't futile. If Christ is risen, then my labor can be for something eternal. If Christ is risen, then I can be unmoveable, not because I'm stubborn but because I'm anchored to something permanent. The resurrection makes work meaningful in a way nothing else can.
