Stephen is introduced as 'a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit.' Not famous yet. Not a big name. Just: a man full of faith. He'd been chosen to serve tables, to distribute food to widows. That's where we meet him. That's where his greatness was demonstrated—in the unglamorous work of making sure forgotten people had what they needed.
I'm a church secretary. I spend my days answering phones, managing the building, handling logistics. It's not flashy. When pastors preach on 'calling,' they talk about evangelism or leadership. But Stephen's story starts in the food bank. I wonder sometimes if my work even matters. Then I read this verse.
Stephen did his job so faithfully, so full of faith, that it became obvious there was something different about him. When they challenged him to a debate about Jesus, he was ready. He'd been prepared by years of faithful work in obscurity. This verse is a kindness to people like me who will never preach from a pulpit, never lead a movement. If I'm faithful where I am, full of faith and the Holy Spirit, that's more than enough. That's everything.
