I'm a Black woman, and I was taught by my grandmother that my name is written in the Lamb's book of life. No matter what this world says about my value, no matter what I'm paid or not paid, my name is written.
That sustained her through Jim Crow. That sustained her through racism and sexism and violence. Her name was written before the foundation of the world.
I'm teaching my daughters the same. The systems that demean you don't get the final word. Your name is written in a book that matters more than any human registry.
It sounds like comfort food theology. But it's actually radical resistance. If my worth is predetermined in God's book, then nothing the beast can do can determine my value.
