John sees the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with him are the one hundred forty-four thousand who have his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads.
John hears a sound like the roar of rushing waters, like a loud peal of thunder, and like the sound of harpists playing their harps. The hundred forty-four thousand sing a new song that no one else can learn except those redeemed from the earth.
They're described as those who haven't been defiled by women and are virgins, following the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from humanity as firstfruits to God and the Lamb. No lie is found in their mouths. They're blameless.
This is the counterpoint to those worshiping the beast. The contrast is stark: the redeemed are marked with God's name, sealed in their allegiance, singing with heavenly joy. They've resisted the mark of the beast.
