After this, John sees a great multitude that no one could count from every nation, tribe, people, and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They're clothed in white robes and holding palm branches. They cry out in a loud voice: 'Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne and to the Lamb.'
One of the elders asks John who these people are and where they come from. John says 'Sir, you know.' The elder explains: 'These are they who have come out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.'
The multitude is a community of overcomers. They've gone through suffering and come out the other side still faithful. They're clothed in righteousness, their needs met, their tears wiped away. This is the promise of what endurance yields.
