Jacob blesses Joseph's sons: the God who has been with me, who has redeemed me, may He bless these boys. Jacob connects himself to Abraham and Isaac - 'my fathers walked' - and passes that walking tradition forward.
It's a prayer of continuity. The same God who guided Abraham, who was with Isaac - may He be with these grandsons. There's no guarantee of ease, just the presence of the God who's been present across generations.
I pray similarly for my children - not for prosperity or safety primarily, but that they would walk with the God I've known. That the presence I've experienced would be available to them too.
