After this, John sees another angel coming down from heaven with great authority, and the earth is illuminated by his splendor. The angel cries out in a mighty voice: 'Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!'
The angel describes Babylon as a home for demons, a haunt for every impure spirit, a haunt for every unclean bird, and a cage for every unclean and detestable animal. All the nations have drunk the intoxicating wine of her adulteries. The kings of the earth committed adultery with her, and the merchants of the earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries.
Then John hears another voice from heaven saying 'Come out of her, my people, so that you won't share in her sins and receive none of her plagues.' Her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes.
Give back to her as she has given, pay her back double for what she has done. Mix her a double portion from her own cup. The response to Babylon is swift. She dressed herself in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones, and pearls. In one hour, such great wealth has come to ruin.
