John's vision shows twenty-four elders around God's throne, wearing crowns and sitting on thrones. Not standing at attention. Not groveling. Seated. Crowned. Honored.
I'm a Black Christian, and I need that image. So much Christianity teaches me that my value is conditional - if I serve well enough, work hard enough, accept oppression peacefully enough. But John's vision is of dignity that's not earned. It's given. The elders sit in honor because they're made for honor.
I'm teaching my kids that their worth isn't something to prove. They're not less because the world treats them as less. God has already crowned them. That's the truth.
I'm reclaiming that vision for myself too. Not arrogantly. But rightly. I'm made for honor. That's not pride - that's alignment with what God has already determined.
