You shall not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the clear-sighted. This hits different now that I work in nonprofit administration where funding is tight. The temptation to be influenced by who's giving money - whether that shapes which populations we serve, which truths we speak - is constant and seductive.
What strikes me is that the verse names what actually happens: a bribe doesn't just corrupt actions, it corrupts vision itself. You stop seeing clearly. The money doesn't just make you act dishonestly - it literally changes what you're able to perceive as true and good.
I've watched organizations - churches, NGOs, schools - slowly shift from their original mission not because someone made a overt deal, but because the money flowing in quietly reshaped what everyone thought was important. The gift itself isn't evil, but allowing it to obscure vision is.
