This is the blessing that Moses the man of God pronounced on the Israelites before his death. Before Moses dies, he blesses the tribes. Each tribe gets a word. A blessing specific to them. Benjamin gets one blessing. Judah gets another. Levi gets one. No two blessings are the same. Each is tailored. Each recognizes something particular about that tribe. I think about the power of specific blessing. Not generic blessing. Not a blanket benediction that applies to everyone equally. But the kind of blessing that says: I see you. I see what's particular about you. I see your strengths. I see your gifts. And I'm blessing you for those particular things. My grandmother blessed her grandchildren individually before she died. She didn't give the same blessing to all of us. She said different things. She saw us differently. And those specific words, those tailored blessings, are what we remember and carry forward.
