John sees a mighty angel coming down from heaven. He's robed in a cloud with a rainbow above his head. His face is like the sun, his legs like fiery pillars. He holds a little scroll open in his hand. When he shouts, seven thunders give voice.
John is about to write, but a voice tells him to seal up what the seven thunders said and not write it. Some things remain hidden. Not everything is revealed.
The angel tells John the mystery of God will be accomplished just as he announced to his servants the prophets. Then the angel tells John to take the scroll and eat it. John does. It's sweet in his mouth but bitter in his stomach. The message tastes good but produces pain. That's the cost of witnessing.
