I'm a young adult pastor, and I work with people in their twenties who are often intensely isolated despite being digitally connected. Paul talks about being strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might, but the context is always corporate. The strength comes through community, through putting on armor together, through the mutual reinforcement of faith.
When young adults come to me overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, or spiritual doubt, part of the problem is isolation. They're trying to be strong alone, to figure things out alone, to maintain faith alone. But that's not how Paul envisions it. Strength comes through being rooted in community, through knowing you're not the only one struggling, through being held up by others when you can't stand up yourself.
I try to help them see that attending church, joining a small group, being in genuine relationship with other believers isn't optional spiritual activity. It's the structural basis of being able to be strong in the Lord. Our isolation is weakness because we're designed for community. Coming together is where actual strength gets built.
