Moses tells a panicked people hemmed in by the Egyptian army: 'Stand still.' Don't fight, don't flee, don't strategize. Just... stand.
I've never been comfortable with passivity. My whole personality is built on initiative - see problem, solve problem. This verse created a crisis in me. Standing still feels like cowardice. But Moses isn't telling them to do nothing in the internal sense. He's telling them to center: 'See the salvation of the Lord.'
What I've learned is that some problems aren't solvable by my effort. The more I strategize against certain fears, the more power I give them. There's a kind of trust that only comes when you're backed against an impossible wall and can't fix it yourself. That's when standing still becomes the bravest thing you can do.
