I left church after my pastor was caught in financial corruption. He lived lavishly while asking the congregation for money. He taught about generosity while hoarding. I felt betrayed beyond repair.
Jude uses harsh language: these people are 'clouds without rain,' shepherds who feed only themselves. That's exactly what my pastor was. He looked spiritual but had no substance. He looked like he could provide but left us hungry.
I needed permission to be angry. I needed religious language for the betrayal. Jude gave me that. This wasn't just a disappointing person - this was a spiritual abuse. And God sees it. God's angry too.
I'm slowly returning to faith with a different church, but I'm watchful. I check to see if the leaders are actually feeding the flock or feeding themselves. I ask hard questions. Jude taught me that's not cynical - that's wise.
