Paul establishes his position: 'So then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries of God.' Leadership is servanthood. Authority is responsibility for sacred trust.
I was promoted to senior pastor. I suddenly had authority I'd never had before. My instinct was to use it—make decisions, shape the direction, leave my mark. But this verse arrested me. I'm not the leader. I'm a servant of Christ. The church isn't mine to build. It's Christ's. I'm simply steward of the mysteries he's entrusted to us.
That reframed leadership. Decisions became harder because I was answering to Christ, not to my vision. But the church became healthier because I was serving something bigger than myself. Authority is meant to be a burden, not a badge.
