Luke describes good soil as heart that hears, retains, and produces through perseverance. It's not about intelligence or status. It's about receptivity and persistence.
I've spent so much energy trying to be smart about Scripture, trying to understand theology perfectly. But Luke is pointing at something simpler: can you hear? Can you hold what you hear? Can you stick with it even when it's hard? I was talking to a woman in our church who never went to Bible college, barely passed high school. But the way she listens to Scripture and lets it reshape her life—she's the good soil. She hears. She keeps the word. She perseveres. And her life is bearing fruit. Meanwhile I can quote theology but sometimes I'm too clever to actually let the word change me. Luke's image makes me wonder what kind of soil I actually am.
