You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you possess eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me. But you refuse to come to me to have life. Jesus is addressing people who read Scripture devotedly but miss the point.
The Scriptures point to something—to Jesus, to relationship, to actual transformation. Reading Scripture without that connection is like memorizing a map without ever traveling. I've known people incredibly knowledgeable about Bible content but closed to actual transformation. And I've known people barely literate in Scripture but genuinely connected to what it points toward. Jesus is calling out the difference.
