You shall not profane my holy name, that I may be sanctified among the people of Israel. I am the Lord who sanctifies you.
The emphasis isn't on protecting God's feelings - it's on what bearing God's name means. When you claim to follow God and then act shamefully, you directly affect how others understand God.
I think about this when I see Christians behaving badly in politics or relationships. They're profaning the name by suggesting their behavior is what God's people look like. That's not about personal judgment - it's about being conscious of what you're representing.
