Jonah is in the belly of the fish and he prays: 'What I vowed, I will make good. Salvation comes from the Lord.' He's making a commitment - he'll do what he said he would do, and he trusts that salvation (from the fish, from his disobedience) comes from God.
It's interesting that Jonah's commitment comes while he's still trapped. He hasn't been vomited onto shore yet. He's still in the fish, in the darkness, and he commits to obedience anyway.
I think about commitment. It's easy to commit when you've already been rescued. But real commitment is made before rescue, in the middle of consequences. Jonah says: I'll go preach to Nineveh, while still in the fish. That's harder.
