The time has come. The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news. Mark's first recorded words of Jesus, and they're an invitation to transformation grounded in something already present.
Repent means to turn around, to reorganize your entire orientation. Believe the good news means accept that God's reign is already arriving. Not someday. Now. That future reality is breaking into present. And your part is to reorient. I've been thinking about what it would mean if I actually believed the kingdom was here. Would I vote differently? Spend money differently? React to injustice differently? Use my time differently? The claim that God's kingdom is already present should be destabilizing. It should reorganize everything.
